Thomas Cook has confirmed that all the companies in its group have ceased trading, including Thomas Cook Airlines.

The following advice has been published by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) following the announcement:

The Government and the Civil Aviation Authority are now working together to do everything we can to support passengers due to fly back to the UK with Thomas Cook between 23 September 2019 and 6 October 2019. 

If you are already abroad you will find all the information you need about your arrangements to get home on the CAA website (www.caa.co.uk).

Your Trip

Any individuals who are at their holiday destination already should talk to their airline and hotel directly to see whether their flights and accommodation have been prepaid or whether there are outstanding costs to be covered. Any customers who have not yet travelled on a trip booked with Thomas Cook will need to check the company website for further details.

If your holiday booked with Thomas Cook included a flight as part of the package, you should in the first instance contact the Civil Aviation Authority for current advice regarding your trip. Their website address is: www.caa.co.uk

If your holiday booked with Thomas Cook was for accommodation alone or did not include a flight as part of the package, you should contact ABTA in the first instance. Their website address is: www.abta.com

If you are not entitled to receive a refund or alternative trip, you are advised to contact your card issuer or PayPal for advice on how to claim a refund. If you booked a flight only directly with Thomas Cook and paid by credit card, you may be protected under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

If you booked a flight that wasn’t part of a package and you are unable to obtain a refund from any of these providers and have purchased a Single Trip Premier from us prior to 31/7/19 that included Complete Supplier Failure cover, then please refer to your policy document for details of how to submit a claim.

Your Travel Insurance

If you have purchased a Single Trip policy and wish to travel on an alternate date for the same duration and within the same Geographical Area as stated on the policy, then insurers will be happy to transfer your policy to another date, subject to our normal admin fee.

If you have purchased a Single Trip policy and wish to transfer the trip for a different duration or Geographical Area, we will be happy to confirm any additional premium that may be required to do so, subject to our normal admin fee.

In either situation, you will need to return the original insurance documents that were issued to you, together with evidence of the trip booked with Thomas Cook and of the trip that you have booked to for which you wish to transfer the insurance. 

Outside of the Statutory Cancellation Period, there is no refund of premium paid as the insurance has been operative and insurers on risk since the date of issue of the policy.
